What Is Surgical Abortion?
Abortion is defined as the “induced termination of a pregnancy with the destruction of the fetus or embryo.” More than 63% of all abortions are drug-induced as of 2023. Almost 96% of abortions are done for unspecified reasons. And nearly 7 in 10 of all women who undergo abortions do so under pressure or against their wishes.
The majority happen during the first 13 weeks of pregnancy, using a method called vacuum aspiration. Later procedures involve dismemberment abortion or, in rare cases, third-trimester abortion.
